4More than just the reaper  Jan 22, 2009 By M. Davignon
As players of the Talisman game already know, it's all too easy in the game already to be killed quickly by a few bad card draws and die rolls. For that reason, the idea of an expansion pack that adds another random "grim reaper" element was not appealing to me.

Fortunately, it's not necessary to actually use the reaper in the game, and the new adventure cards and spell cards make it worth the investment. The adventure cards include a much larger variety of enemies, followers, wepans and events than the original deck. The expansion doubles the amount of spell cards, and most of the spells seem to be more useful than those in the original spell deck.

There are 4 new characters, but most are underwhelming compared to those in the original game. They are:
-Sage - a spellcaster who can preview the adventure deck and re-roll his movement dice
-Knight - a warrior who starts with sword/armor, and has a praying bonus
-Merchant - who has bonuses involving gold and shops
-Dark Cultist - who can perform psychic combat, and gains bonuses from killing eneies & characters.

5Almost Essential Expansion to Talisman  Dec 04, 2009 By Glen Hubbard
If you plan to play Talsiman multiple times, this expansion is almost required. The original game gets monotonous after the third or fourth time played. This expansion adds more encounters, treasures, followers, spells and just plain variety to the classic adventure board game that is Talisman!

The Reaper portion of the expansion itself is optional, and makes the game quite a bit harder. But again, it is an option that can add variety to the core game after multiple playings.

I love this expansion! Keep them coming Fantasy Flight! (Can't wait to get the Dungeon!)

5Now THAT's an Expansion  Dec 03, 2009 By Peter Ingemi
I was in the middle of writing and blogging about my review of Talisman: The Frostmarch Expansionwhen i realized that I never reviewed Talisman the Reaper. This was unfortunate oversight because I found Talisman the Reaper an excellent and interesting expansion to the game.

Four new characters the Merchant and Knight and Sage (I think the Dark Cultist is boring) are good and the extra cards and spells the nice but the real winner is the Grim Reaper variant.

The addition of the reaper changes the pace of the game particular if you play with a group that hesitates to attack each other.

The reaper changes strategy quite a bit now you have to watch where you are going because if you are within 6 or twelve squares from him you are not safe. It really forces you to be careful with your fate markers.

Next to the Talisman: The Dungeon this is the best of the expansions. Very much worth your money.

5Should be an auto-include to the core game!  Jan 05, 2012 By Ryan Leonard
This is the first expansion I got for Talisman, and it adds so much to the game in such a small package that The Reaper should just be part of the core game itself. First off, The Reaper mechanic adds much-needed fear to the game to keep players on edge and sets them against each other from time to time. This is more noticable if you play with a group that does not attack each other often, or at all. Second, a small set of Warlock Cards are included here (the original 6 warlock quests plus 6 new ones) and using them instead of a dice roll gives players incentive to reach the Warlock Cave before the competition (you get to pick your quest from the available cards). Third, the four new characters provide some more variety for players to choose from. All are on par power-wise with the original characters and really just give a few more different ways to play. Plus, you get another female character! Finally, shuffle in the new Adventure and Spell cards and the odds of playing out the same scenerios goes way down. As I said, The Reaper adds a lot to the game without the need for another board, and you just mix it in to the big box. I consider it a "must have" expansion if you enjoy the original game.

5YOU!!!  Jul 13, 2011 By Samson
The Reaper is a must own expansion to Talisman. Adds new strategy and game play to the already great system along with new cards and characters.
