Best Father's Day Gift EVER Jun 26, 2009
By Aaron Hurley I only learned about Settlers of Catan earlier this year after many friends raved about it. We bought the regular (cardboard) set and played quite a bit. The cardboard version is kind of flimsy and it can be difficult to keep things in place. I lamented that I should make the board out of wood.
A little Googling revealed many people doing the same thing. I thought about making my own, but my lovely wife was pretty sure that it would end up costing me thousands of dollars in actual hours to make a set (and she was probably right). Though this is quite expensive for a "board game," it's certainly cheaper in the long run. So much so that she surprised me with it for Father's day.
The pieces are amazingly detailed and the box is perfect. The details on the pieces seem pretty delicate and could be damaged were it not for the well designed box. Everything is easy to store and has a secure place. The game itself is as terrific as always and the board plays great. I had never played the Cities and Knights expansion prior to this. That version of the game has a different angle and is longer than the original Settlers, but still enjoyable.
My only possible concern is the potential difficulty of adding on to play with more than 4 players. Expansions are available to allow more players, but they are made of the original cardboard, etc., and I'm not sure how well they would integrate. Of course, it's all speculation at this point, but it has crossed my mind.
Overall, the set is beautiful and I'm the envy of all of my Settlers loving friends.

3D Settlers of Catan Mar 09, 2008

This collector's edition contains both the regular Settlers of Catan and the Cities and Knights expansion. I own the regular (cardboard box) edition of Settlers of Catan with the Cities and Knights expansion, and saw this collector's edition in a local game store. After comparing prices both brick-and-mortar and online, Funfinity's Amazon storefront had the best price even after shipping.
The game involves building up first settlements, followed by cities, and players trade amongst each other for critical resources. The pieces and game tiles seem quite durable. I did find the see-through number pieces a bit hard to see; also, the raised game tiles (mountains and clay pits) make it difficult to shuffle the tiles. We eventually assigned numbers corresponding to the sides of a die in order to randomize the game tile positions somewhat. This game is at least three to five hours of very concentrated fun, and I highly recommend it.

Love the Settlers of Catan game and the 3D version is just awesome from the game pieces to the case it's self. Very awesome, something to pass down, something that will last plus, more fun to play!

Best Version of Catan Ever!! Mar 13, 2010

There is absolutely nothing bad to say about this. If you like Settlers of Catan, you should at least look at this game. It costs a TON of money, perhaps more than most people would be willing to put up for a game, but if you love Settlers of Catan you absolutely will be entranced by this edition.
Love it May 25, 2011
By Rex My family is a big fan of Settlers and we enjoy playing the 3d version about 50% of the time. New players seem to enjoy learning on the standard 2d version, but once you know the game this version is the ticket.
