Retro Mego Means Retro Fun Sep 17, 2010
By Laurence Basinait Not really meant for a kid, just a kid at heart. But a kid would like these, too. It's a very nicely done figure and great homage to Mego's of the 70's. This is a figure they could have should have done, and it's a wonderful execution of a basic design.
There are nits, of course, like the figure seems a tad hunched, and maybe they were too loyal to the limited articulation of 40 years ago, but I absolutely love this retro line.
Mego Black Manta Nov 04, 2011

I love these Retro-Action figures, especially the ones that were not in the original Mego collection. I am not even much of an Aquaman fan, but this Black Manta figure was too cool to pass up.
He looks just like Black Manta, which admittedly isn't hard to pull off. He has a black body suit and big clunky black Mego boots, plus a detachable airtank on his back. The figure I received isn't the sturdiest thing. It doesn't stand up very well on its own, and I don't know how long it would last with heavy play. But it looks great in my Mego collection.
The only really complaint I have is the head. If they wanted to be super-awesome, they would have given Black Manta a removable helmet. As one of the few African American super-villains, it would have been nice to see his face. And as it is his helmet is way too small to physically fit a head inside, so Black Manta looks more like an alien with a mushroom-shaped head than a guy in a helmet.
But hey, it is a Mego Black Manta figure! And complaint aside I am thrilled to have it.
