Big Hit with K-5 Crowd Apr 03, 2009

My 4th grade son and his friends have been hit hard with the 'Giant Microbe' bug. This age group loves to collect and compare things (like Pokemon, U.B. Funkeys, etc.) and these Giant Microbes fit the bill. As a parent, I see the toys themselves as relatively benign smallish stuffed plushes. The information tags attached to each microbe give interesting facts about the causes, effects, and cures for each 'microbe,' giving them some educational value. Parents be warned, however - some of the microbes represent ... ummm, mature ... diseases, so be prepared to either divert your child to the more innocent ones (such as Mad Cow) or to discuss with your child why he cannot take his Herpes to school.
My Neice loved it so much I'm going to have to get more May 23, 2013

So my niece was being strapped into her car seat after getting high on ice cream at baskin robins and I had this in my car - I had bought several giant microbes as thank you gifts for the people who wrote me letters of recommendation to get into a Microbiology PhD program.
Well Mad Cow had been in my car for a while and I'd considered keeping it since it is one of the types of disease that I am interested in studying... but when an adorable little 2 year old is in front of you, you just give them stuff. So I handed the little one my Mad Cow and laughed, telling her Daddy as he strapped her in "It's a stuffed Microbe - Mad Cow" he laughed being just as dorky as I am.. then we heard the little voice "Mad Cow, Mad Cow, mad cow goes on adventures" Not expecting her to actually call it mad cow - it cracked me up. She and Mad Cow are now inseparable. I assume it's attraction comes from the fact that it is a small 5 inch long cylinder colored like a cow. It's the perfect size for her little hand and the cow pattern is exciting to little people.
Any way, I will be buying more Giant Microbes and I still have possession of my Rabies. But Mad Cow is a hit in our family. I can't wait until she is old enough to start actually discussing this stuff with.

By Matt B Bought for my fiancee who is studying Microbiology. She loves them and wants to collect all of the Giant Microbes.
Adorable but smaller than expected Apr 07, 2013
By Miwa Hattori The item looks a little different in reality from the product photo. * It's more cylindrical in reality (skinnier). * the black and white pattern will differ from the photo Also it was smaller than expected (runs about 5 inches). Still, an adorable microbe.

I got this for my husband for Christmas - I've been looking at the plush microbes for a long time, and just couldn't decide. This is perfect for him, though! We're both science-geeks, and this is such a great conversation-starter on his desk at work.
