Long-awaited expansion May 14, 2011 As for May 2011 status there are available two expansions to Cosmic Encounter from Fantasy Flight Games: - Cosmic Incursion (released in 2010) - Cosmic Conflict (released in 2011)
We own both, and we really like the game and both expansions. The expansion packs provide new alien cards, and each adds one more player - these extension features are always welcome for such a game. Also they deliver exactly what the description says - hazard cards, rift cards, kicker cards, etc - we appreciate each of these features as well.
We were not evaluating each of the new aliens in details - just had glanced them and mixed with the set from the original game. Some of new aliens are really pretty fun to play.
Quality of the expansions matches original game, so you will not be disappointed.
Great buy Mar 02, 2012
By Whitsonl I bought the expansion set to go along with the main board. You have to have the original set in order for this to even make sense, but it is a good expansion. I would also suggest the newer expansion, Cosmic Alliance.
A step forward for game play but a big step back for artwork Nov 06, 2011
By youarenotwill How much fun is this toy? - ***** I feel that the new powers have been very well balanced which had been a small problem before. The homebrews that were turned into powers worked out well. How would you rate this toy's educational value? - ** I would have given it only one since it's obviously not designed for educational purposes but it does make you think and I've been able to play a successful game with a ten year old so he is using his brain a lot playing this game. How durable is this game? - *** The game is done on card stock so obviously you can't expect it to last through the holocaust. It is pretty heavy card stock though. The ships are plastic and fairly durable and they also don't have any thin parts sticking out that would break off easy. Then the planets and the tokens are all board which holds up well against most things. All in all if you take care of it you'll be playing for years. How do you rate this toy overall? - **** I would have given CC 5* but the artwork is mostly awful. Only about a third of the images are up to what I think Cosmic should be or has been. CI had some bad art too but this was just a five year old and crayons on card stock. The new powers are extremely fun, some are extremely varied which gives you many different ways to win. I love this and I think if you are into Cosmic you should get this expansion and just imagine different pictures. Soon another is coming out and I can't wait to review it.

A Useful Enhancement to a Great Game Jan 13, 2012
By Vassili The base game of Cosmic Encounter is a five-star game in itself. The "Cosmic Conflict" expansion set adds a few highly desirable features which make gameplay even more variable.
Most importantly, I consider the accommodation of a sixth player as reason enough to buy this expansion. The base game's limitation of five players may often impose the choice of a different game for the evening. In addition a variety of new alien profiles and of new card sets can be merged freely into the base game while leaving out the undesired options for another day. The skill level of participating players (beginner, intermediate, advanced) will probably have the most influence in choosing the right mix of options for the occasion. In my opinion, here are the primary options offered, in rank of importance: 1. the 6th player 2. the hazard deck 3. the additional aliens/powers
The quality of materials is perfectly uniform to that of the base game. This is very important, since any combination of game options feels natural during play.
On the downside, it seems that many of Cosmic Conflict's features are duplicated by "Cosmic Incursion", its sibling expansion set.
In conclusion, I consider the addition of either one of the two above expansion sets as a very useful move for a Cosmic Encounter enthusiast (almost a must in my case), but not necessarily of both.
