Came folded and extremely creased, but several hours under heavy books took care of that. Storing it in the original package tube. Using colored Vis-A-Vis wet erase markers and a water/detergent solution with paper towels to erase. Warm colors like red tend to stain, but the water/detergent handles that well.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by the durability of this mat. I was expecting something maybe a bit more flimsy, but this is made of good quality solid thick vinyl that lies perfectly flat. If you're looking for a mat for playing miniatures I'd probably recommend the larger mat, but for rpg use, this mat will cover pretty much all but the most epic battles while also leaving table space for books. Having it made for wet-erase markers is a great feature as they won't smudge as readily as dry-erase would. Great product.

The 26x23.5 in map is a reasonable choice for map making, either for game play or geography.
Being 2-sided allows it to be useful and it isn't too difficult to wash, just be sure to use dry erase markers. There are larger maps but my friends and I used this just fine so far.
As far as how much fun it provides, I'd say that's up to the buyer/owner's creativity, and I'd recommend this at least as a first play mat.

Great quality product Jan 15, 2008
I had my original one sided mat for over 15 years. They last that long. I accidentally used some permanent markers on it and ruined it this last year. I thought they were washable. Caution: these mats are only good for WET-erase markers only. Dry erase will damage them. Use wet erase or some crayola washable markers if you can't find the other. Use only water and tissues as over time the grid will rub off. Otherwise if you take good care of your mat like I did prior to my mishap, you will have it for a long time.
